The Childhood Roots of Adult Disease: Exploring the Biology and Psychology of Early Life Stress
On April 15, 2008 the Norlien videocasted the final lecture in a series of six held across Harvard University this year. The lecture, entitled The Childhood Roots of Adult Disease: Exploring the Biology and Psychology of Early Life Stress was hosted by Harvard University's Center on the Developing Child. Speakers included Takao Hench from Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Science, Children's Hospital Boston, Laura Kubzansky from Harvard's School of Public Health, and Charles A. Nelson III from Harvard University's Medical School, School of Public Health and Children's Hospital Boston. The Norlien Foundation is pleased to announce the second annual Building Blocks for a Healthy Future Conference. This invitational gathering will center on issues pertaining to work in child development and addiction, using a neuroscience framework.
This conference is by invitation only. Partners include: Alberta Alcohol & Drug Abuse Commission (ADDAC), Alberta Mental Health Board (AMHB), Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AFHMR), University of Calgary-Faculty of Medicine and the University of Alberta-Faculty of Medicine.

The Calgary Addiction Summit is being convened at the request of Calgary's addiction services community to develop a strategic plan for a better, more coordinated approach to addiction treatment in Calgary. There are over 180 organizations and agencies in Calgary that deal with addiction on a daily basis, each working hard to provide the best services they possibly can. But with so many institutional and often competing agendas and mandates, it can be difficult to "see the forest for the trees" and find opportunities to improve services on a system-wide level.
