Dr. David Elton - President
Dr. David Elton is a professor emeritus of the University of Lethbridge, where he was a faculty member for 27 years. From 1980 to 1997, he served as President of Canada West Foundation, a Calgary-based public policy think tank. He continues to serve on the Boards of a number of national research and public-policy oriented organizations. Dr. Elton is also the president of the Calgary-based Max Bell Foundation.
Paula Tyler - Executive Director, Alberta Family Wellness Initiative
Paula Tyler has had a long and distinguished career in the field of human services. Most recently Paula was the Vice President Child and Women's Health and Specialized Clinical Services for the Calgary Health Region. Prior to this, Paula served as Vice President and CEO, Mental Health at Capital Health in Edmonton , Alberta. Her other professional experience includes the position of Chief Executive Child Youth and Family Services for the Government of New Zealand and Deputy Minister for Alberta Children's Services. Paula has held several other senior executive positions with the Alberta Government including Deputy Commissioner for Children's Services and Assistant Deputy Minister for Alberta Family and Social Services. As well, Paula has been active in community volunteer work. She is a member of the Board of Directors, Calgary YMCA, Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and has served in a number of senior volunteer roles, locally, provincially and nationally in the area of disabilities.
Dr. Ralph Strother - Senior Program Officer
Dr. Strother is a Medical Doctor and Fellow and a retired Professor of Medicine, who actively practiced in Sport Medicine and Population Health. His research interests and publications range from injury prevention, basic science to medical learning and curriculum development. He is past Chair of the Calgary Foundation and sits on other non-profit Boards involved in youth at risk and disease prevention.
Kate Pedlow - Program Officer
Kate obtained her LLB with a specialization in business law from Dalhousie University in 2007 and has a particular interest in charitable law. She was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in August, 2008. Kate has been involved with a number of non-profit organizations acting in numerous capacities. She currently sits on the Board of a Calgary-based youth organization and is a volunteer lawyer with the Canadian Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyer Service.
Dr. Nicole Sherren - Program Officer
Nicole received her Doctorate in neuroscience from Carleton University in 2003. She was the first recipient of the combined Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research/NeuroScience Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship, which she held at the University of Lethbridge until 2006. Nicole has an extensive background in developmental and behavioural neuroscience, research methodology, and knowledge translation.
Marisa Etmanski - Executive Director, Edmonton Area
Marisa is a senior communications professional with extensive public relations, government relations, and policy management experience. She has provided strategic and tactical communications counsel to the former Premier of Alberta, Chief of Staff, members of Executive Council, ministry staff and the Government Caucus on policy issues and implementation of communication initiatives.
